توطئة

Blessed is the One who sent down the Criterion (the Qurʾān) upon the Prophet, fragrant of character.

Olùbùkún ni Ẹni tí ó sọ Fúrqánù (Kùránì) kalẹ̀ sórí Ànábì, ẹni tí ìwà rẹ̀ rùn.

Upon Muḥammad—may Allah's prayers and peace continually envelop him.

Lára Muḥammad—kí àdúrà àti àlàáfíà Alláhu máa bò ó nígbà gbogbo.

And upon his family and his companions. And after that: This is a necklace like pearls.

Àti lara ẹbí rẹ̀ àti àwọn ọrẹ́ rẹ̀. Lẹ́yìn èyí: Èyí ni ẹ̀gba bí òkùta iyebíye.

I have included in it the knowledge of tafsīr (exegesis), as guidance for the one who is bewildered by it.

Mo ti fi ìmọ̀ tafsīr (àlàyé Kùránì) sínú rẹ̀, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìtọ́sọ́nà fún ẹni tí ó rù nínú rẹ̀.

I have composed it as verses from the cream (of knowledge), refining its arrangement to the utmost.

Mo ti ṣe é ní ẹsẹ ìwí láti inú àkójọpọ̀ yòówù (ìmọ̀), tí mo sì ṣe àtúnṣe ètò rẹ̀ dé ibi tí ó tó.

And I seek guidance and help from Allah, for He is the Guide and the One who helps.

Mo sì ń béèrè ìtọ́sọ́nà àti ìrànlọ́wọ́ lọ́wọ́ Alláhu, nítorí pé Òun ni Olùdarí àti Ẹni tí ń ṣèrànlọ́wọ́.
