Withdraw from the mention of songs and romance, and speak decisively, and avoid whoever jokes idly.

Yà kúrò nínú ìrántí àwọn orin àti ìfẹ́-ọkàn, sọ ọ̀rọ̀ tí ó ṣe pàtàkì, kí o sì yẹra fún ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó ń ṣe àwàdà tí kò ní ìtumọ̀.

And leave the remembrance to the days of youth—for the days of youth have a star that has set.

Fi ìrántí sílẹ̀ fún àwọn ọjọ́ ìgbà èwe—nítorí àwọn ọjọ́ ìgbà èwe ní ìràwọ̀ tí ó ti wọ̀.

Indeed, the sweetest life I have spent—its pleasures have gone, and the sin has settled.

Nítòótọ́, ìgbésí ayé tí ó dùn jù tí mo ti gbé—àwọn ìgbádùn rẹ̀ ti lọ, ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ sì ti wà (lọ́run mí).

And leave the young woman—do not care for her—you will then be in honor, elevated, and glorified.

Fi ọ̀dọ́bìnrin náà sílẹ̀—má ṣe eré pẹ̀lú rẹ̀—ìwọ yóò wà nínú ọlá, wọ́n yóò gbé ọ ga, wọ́n yóò sì pàtàkì rẹ.

And divert yourself from the instrument of amusement that delighted, and from the beardless youth whose buttocks sway.

Yà kúrò nínú ohun èlò ìdárayá tí ó ń dùn, àti kúrò lọ́dọ̀ ọ̀dọ́kùnrin tí kò ní irùngbọ̀n tí ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ ń gbọn.

If he appears, the mid-morning sun is eclipsed; and when he sways, he puts the spears to shame.

Bí ó bá farahàn, oòrùn àárín ọ̀sán á ṣókùnkùn; bí ó sì bá ń yẹ̀, yóò dójútì àwọn ọ̀kọ̀.

He exceeds the full moon in radiance when we compare him to it, and when we liken him to a branch, it stands straight.

Ó ju òṣùpá ti o kún-ún lọ ní ìtànṣán nígbà tí a bá fi wé e, nígbà tí a bá sì fi wé ẹ̀ka igi, ó dúró ṣinṣin.

And reflect on the ultimate end of the beauty of the one you desire—you will find a grave matter.

Ronú nípa òpin ẹwà ẹni tí ìwọ ń fẹ́—ìwọ yóò rí ọ̀ràn tí ó tóbi.

And fear Allah—for the fear of Allah does live with. a person's heart except that it reaches the divine realm of Allah.

Kí o sì bẹ̀rù Alláhu—nítorí ibẹ̀rù Alláhu kì í wá pẹ̀lú ọkàn ẹnìkan bí kò ṣe pé yóò dé ibi tí ó ń lọ (ọdọ Ọlọhun Allahu).

It is not the one who cuts through roads who is a hero—rather, it is the one who fears Allah who is a hero.

Kì í ṣe ẹni tí ó ń gé àwọn ọ̀nà ni akọni—kàkà bẹ́ẹ̀, ẹni tí ó bẹ̀rù Alláhu ni akọni.
