"In 1324, Al-sahili met the ruler of mali, mansa Musa, during his pilgrimage to Mecca. According to the chronic Al- sa'di, Mansa Musa was so delighted by the poetry and narrative talent of Al-sahili that he invited him to return to Mali with him. Al-sahili settled in the growing intellectual and commercial
center of Timbuktu where he built an audience chamber For Mansa Musa to demonstrate his talent as a skilled craftsman. So impressed was musa that he engaged the Andalusian to construct his new residence and great mosque in Timbuktu. While the residence has been lost to time, the great mosque still
stands in Timbuktu...¹¹
This fact is also confirmed by Sheikh-Adam who says: "Mansa Musa was the one that invited Abu Ishaq from
pilgrimage to build his palace and mosques in Timbuktu in
Arabic modern art of construction"¹²
His Works
There is no available account stating Abu Ishaq achievement in term of prose (Nathr). However, Al-sahili's contribution in versification/poetic composition (Nasm) is so much to the extent that he had to his credit well over 40 different types of poems with different themes. He had passion for sufi's themes widely. His family background is one of the factors that supplied the ability of relationship and adaptation of mystics thought. To mention but view among his work are:
1. Al-mutaqarib: The poem is 47 lines which he used as a tool to sanitize the environment by instigating the people of Granada to reject Yussuf Ibn Nagrila as their vizier.
