الْمَقَامَةُ الشِّعرية

Àti pé ìṣẹ̀lẹ̀ yìí yóò ṣàṣeyọrí láti ohun tí Ọlọ́run fún un àti pé yóò jẹ́ ẹni tí ó tó fún ara rẹ̀ láti ẹlòmíràn.

So repent, O sheikh, from accusing him and return to honoring him.

Nítorí náà, ronú padà, alàgbà, láti ẹ̀sùn rẹ̀ àti padà sí ìyì rẹ̀.

The sheikh said: It is impossible for my hatred to return to him or for my trust to cling to him!

Alàgbà náà sọ pé: Kò ṣeé ṣe fún ìkórìíra mi láti padà sí i tàbí fún ìgbàgbọ́ mi láti di mọ́ ọn!

I have tested his ingratitude for the favor and suffered from his severe disobedience.

Mo ti dá ìkànsí rẹ̀ sí ọ̀rẹ́ náà àti mo ti jìyà láti ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ nínú àìgbọ́ràn tó burú.

The young man interrupted him and said: O you, obstinacy is a bad omen and anger is meanness.

Ọ̀dọ́kùnrin náà dá a dúró ó sì sọ pé: Ìwọ yìí, ìfaradà jẹ́ àyàfi àti ìbínú jẹ́ ìkà.

Confirming suspicion is a sin and oppressing the innocent is injustice.

Ìmúdájú àníyàn jẹ́ ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ àti ìkà sí ẹni tí kò ní ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ jẹ́ àìṣòdodo.

Even if I committed a crime or a major sin.

Kódà tí mo bá ṣe ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ tàbí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ńlá kan.

Do you not remember what you recited to me for yourself?

Ṣé o kò rántí ohun tí o kọ fún ara rẹ?

In the time of your joy: forgive your brother if he mixes right with wrong.

Nínú àkókò ìdùnnú rẹ: dárí jì ẹ̀gbọ́n rẹ̀ tí ó bá dapọ̀ òdodo pẹ̀lú àṣìṣe.

And avoid reproaching him if he strays one day or errs.

Àti yàgò fún ìbáwí rẹ̀ tí ó bá yà ní ọjọ́ kan tàbí ṣe àṣìṣe.
