الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَرَاغِيَّةُ

وَسَامَهُ أَنْ يَنْضَوِيَ إِلَى أَحْشَائِهِ


English

He asked him to join his inner circle

Ó bẹ̀ ẹ́ láti darapọ̀ mọ́ àwọn ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀

وَيَلِي دِيوَانَ إِنْشَائِهِ


English

And to take charge of his composition bureau

Kí ó sì mójútó ilé-iṣẹ́ ìṣẹ̀dá rẹ̀

فَأَحْسَبَهُ الْحِبَاء


English

So he considered it a gift

Nítorí náà ó kà á sí ẹ̀bùn

وَظَلَفَهُ عَنِ الْوِلَايَةِ الْإِبَاءُ


English

But his pride kept him from the governorship

قَالَ الرَّاوِي: وَكُنْتُ عَرَفْتُ عُودَ شَجَرَتِهِ


English

The narrator said: I had known the wood of his tree

قَبْلَ إِينَاعِ ثَمَرَتِهِ


English

Before the ripening of its fruit

وَكِدْتُ أُنَبِّهَ عَلَى عُلُوِّ قَدْرِهِ


English

And I almost pointed out his high status

Mo fẹ́rẹ̀ẹ́ sọ nípa ipò gíga rẹ̀

قَبْلَ اسْتِنَارَةِ بَدْرِهِ


English

Before the illumination of his full moon

Kí òṣùpá rẹ̀ tó tan

فَأَوْحَى إِلَيَّ بِإِيمَاضِ جَفْنِهِ


English

He hinted to me with a blink of his eye

أَنْ لَا أُجَرِّدَ عَضْبَهُ مِنْ جَفْنِهِ


English

Not to unsheathe his sword from its scabbard
