مُقَدِّمَة

To what I have adorned it with of verses and beautiful metaphors.

Sí ohun tí mo fi ṣe ọ̀ṣọ́ rẹ̀ láti inú àwọn ami oro Kurani àti àwọn àfiwé dáradára.

And what I have inlaid in it of Arabic proverbs and literary pleasantries.

Àti ohun tí mo ti fi sínú rẹ̀ láti inú àwọn òwe Lárúbáwá àti àwọn ohun dídùn ti lítíréṣọ̀.

And grammatical riddles and linguistic rulings.

Àti àwọn àlọ́ gírámà àti àwọn ìdájọ́ èdè.

And innovative letters and well-crafted sermons.

Àti àwọn lẹ́tà tuntun àti àwọn wàásù tí a ṣe dáradára.

And tearful admonitions and amusing anecdotes.

Àti àwọn ìkìlọ̀ tí ó ń mú ni sunkún àti àwọn ìtàn tí ó ń mú ni rẹ́rìn-ín.

All of which I have dictated through the tongue of Abu Zayd al-Saruji.

Gbogbo èyí tí mo ti sọ láti ẹnu Abu Seidu omo ilu Saruji.

And I have attributed its narration to al-Harith bin Hammam al-Basri.

Tí mo sì ti fi ìtàn rẹ̀ sí ọwọ́ Harisu ọmọ Hammam omo ilu Basra.

And I did not intend by the humor in it except to enliven its readers and increase the number of its seekers.

Èmi kò sì ní èrò pẹ̀lú ẹ̀rín nínú rẹ̀ àyàfi láti mú àwọn òǹkàwé rẹ̀ taji àti láti jẹ kí ó pọ̀, ìye àwọn tí ń wá a.

And I have not deposited in it of foreign poetry except two unique verses upon which I built the structure of the Hulwani Maqama.

Èmi kò sì fi sínú rẹ̀ láti inú ewì àjèjì àyàfi ẹsẹ méjì tí ó yàtọ̀ tí mo fi kọ́ ìpìlẹ̀ Makama Hulwani.

And two other twin verses which I included in the conclusion of the Karji Maqama.

Àti ẹsẹ ìbejì méjì mìíràn tí mo fi sínú ìparí Makama Karji.
