الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَرَاغِيَّةُ

Inherited from them due to the antiquity of their origins

Tí a jogún lọ́wọ́ wọn nítorí pé wọ́n ti pẹ́

Not for the precedence of the source over the derivative?

Kì í ṣe tí ìṣáájú débi ọgbọ́ǹ ọrọ̀ ju èyí tó jáde wá lọ?

And indeed I know now one who when he composes

Nítòótọ́ mo mọ ẹnìkan báyìí tí ó bá kọ ǹkan

He embellishes

Ó ń ṣe é lọ́ṣọ́

And when he expresses

Tí ó bá sì sọ̀rọ̀

He enlightens

Ó ń ṣe àlàyé

And if he elaborates

Tí ó bá sì sọ púpọ̀

He amazes

Ó ń ya ní lẹ́nu

And when he is concise

Tí ó bá sì sọ díẹ̀

He incapacitates

Ó ń mú kí ẹnu ó yà wọ́n
