الْمَقَامَةُ الصَّنْعَانِيَّةُ

مُحْتَوٍ عَلَى زِحَامٍ وَنَحِيبٍ


English

Containing a crowd and wailing

Tí ó kun fun ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn àti ẹkún

فَوَلَجْتُ غَابَةَ الْجَمْعِ


English

So I entered the thicket of the gathering

Nígbà náà ni mo wọ inú àkojọ ènìyàn náà

لِأَسْبُرَ مَجْلَبَةَ الدَّمْعِ


English

To probe the cause of the tears

Láti wádìí ìdí ẹkún náà

فَرَأَيْتُ فِي بَهْرَةِ الْحَلْقَةِ


English

And I saw in the center of the circle

Mo sì rí ní àárín àyíká náà

25

شَخْصًا شَخْتَ الْخِلْقَةِ


English

A person of aged appearance

Yoruba

Ẹnìkan tí ó ti dàgbà

26

عَلَيْهِ أُهْبَةُ السِّيَاحَةِ


English

Upon him was the gear of a traveler

Tí ó wọ aṣọ irin ajò

27

وَلَهُ رَنَّةُ النِّيَاحَةِ


English

And he had the tone of lamentation

Tí ó sì ní ohùn ẹkún

28

وَهُوَ يَطْبَعُ الْأَسْجَاعَ بِجَوَاهِرِ لَفْظِهِ


English

And he was imprinting rhymed prose with the jewels of his words

Yoruba

Ó sì ń ṣe àkọlé ọ̀rọ̀ orin pẹ̀lú àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ dáradára rẹ̀

وَيَقْرَعُ الْأَسْمَاعَ بِزَوَاجِرِ وَعْظِهِ


English

And he strikes the ears with the rebukes of his admonition

Ó sì ń lu etí pẹ̀lú àwọn ìkìlọ̀ ìwàásù rẹ̀

وَقَدْ أَحَاطَتْ بِهِ أَخْلَاطُ الزُّمَرِ


English

And mixed groups had surrounded him
