Chapter 9

الْمَقَامَةُ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةُ

71

وَتَحْكُمَ بَيْنَنَا بِمَا أَرَاكَ اللَّهُ.


English

And judge between us as Allah has shown you.

Yoruba

Kí o sì ṣe ìdájọ́ láàrín wa gẹ́gẹ́ bí Ọlọ́hun ti fihàn ọ́.

72

فَأَقْبَلَ الْقَاضِي عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ لَهُ:


English

Then the judge turned to him and said:

Nígbà náà ni adájọ́ yípadà sí i, ó sì wí fún un pé:

73

قَدْ وَعَيْتُ قَصَصَ عِرْسِكَ.


English

I have understood the story of your spouse.

Yoruba

Mo ti gbọ́ ìtàn aya rẹ.

74

فَبَرْهِنِ الْآنَ عَنْ نَفْسِكَ.


English

Now prove yourself.

Yoruba

Nísinsin yìí, fi ẹ̀rí hàn nípa ara rẹ.

75

وَإِلَّا كَشَفْتُ عَنْ لَبْسِكَ.


English

Or else I will uncover your deception.

Yoruba

Bí bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, èmi yóò tú àṣírí ẹ̀tàn rẹ.

76

وَأَمَرْتُ بِحَبْسِكَ.


English

And order your imprisonment.

Yoruba

Èmi yóò sì pàṣẹ pé kí wọ́n jù ọ́ sẹ́wọ̀n.

77

فَأَطْرَقَ إِطْرَاقَ الْأُفْعُوَانِ.


English

So he lowered his head like a viper.

Nígbà náà ló rẹ orí rẹ̀ sílẹ̀ bí ejò paramọ́lẹ̀.

78

ثُمَّ شَمَّرَ لِلْحَرْبِ الْعَوَانِ.


English

Then he rolled up his sleeves for fierce battle.

Yoruba

Lẹ́yìn náà ló ká apá aṣọ rẹ̀ sókè fún ogun líle.

79

وَقَالَ: اسْمَعْ حَدِيثِي فَإِنَّهُ عَجَبٌ يُضْحِكُ مِنْ شَرْحِهِ وَيَنْتَحِبُ.


English

He said: Listen to my tale, for it is a wonder that makes one laugh in its telling and weep.

Yoruba

Ó sọ̀rọ̀ pé: Gbọ́ ìtàn mi, nítorí ó jẹ́ ìyanu tí ó ń mú ẹ̀rín ba ẹni nígbà tí a bá ń sọ ọ́, tí ó sì tún ń mú ni sọkún.

80

أَنَا امْرُؤٌ لَيْسَ فِي خَصَائِصِهِ عَيْبٌ وَلَا فِي فَخَارِهِ رِيبٌ.


English

I am a man with no flaw in his qualities, and no doubt in his pride.

Yoruba

Èmi ni ọkùnrin tí kò ní àbùkù nínú àwọn ẹ̀yà rẹ̀, tí kò sì ní iyèméjì nínú faari rẹ̀.
