Chapter 9

الْمَقَامَةُ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةُ

61

وَاجْنِنِي ثَمَرَةَ بَرَاعَتِكَ.


English

And reap for me the fruit of your skill.

Kí o sì kó èso ọgbọ́n rẹ wá fún mi.

62

فَزَعَمَ أَنَّ صِنَاعَتَهُ قَدْ رُمِيَتْ بِالْكَسَادِ.


English

He claimed that his craft had been struck by stagnation.

Yoruba

Ó sọ pé iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ òun ti di aláìlọ́wọ́.

63

لِمَا ظَهَرَ فِي الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْفَسَادِ.


English

Due to the corruption that had appeared on the earth.

Yoruba

Nítorí ìbàjẹ́ tí ó ti farahàn lórí ilẹ̀ ayé.

64

وَلِي مِنْهُ سُلَالَةٌ.


English

And I have from him offspring.

Yoruba

Mo sì ní ọmọ láti ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀.

65

كَأَنَّهُ خِلَالَةٌ.


English

As if it were a toothpick.

Yoruba

Bí ẹni pé ó jẹ́ igi ìtayin.

66

وَكِلَانَا مَا يَنَالُ مَعَهُ شَبْعَةً.


English

And neither of us achieves satiety with it.

Yoruba

Àti pé kò sí ẹnikẹ́ni nínú wa tó ń jẹ yó pẹ̀lú rẹ̀.

67

وَلَا تَرْقَأُ لَهُ مِنَ الطَّوَى دَمْعَةٌ.


English

Nor does a tear of hunger dry for it.

Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni omijé ebi kò gbẹ fún un.

68

وَقَدْ قُدْتُهُ إِلَيْكَ.


English

And I have led him to you.

Yoruba

Mo sì ti mú un wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ.

69

وَأَحْضَرْتُهُ لَدَيْكَ.


English

And brought him before you.

Yoruba

Mo sì ti mú un wá síwájú rẹ.

70

لِتَعْجَمَ عُودَ دَعْوَاهُ.


English

So that you may test the wood of his claim.

Kí o lè dán igi ẹ̀sùn rẹ̀ wò.
