And shunned their connections and gifts.
Ó sì kọ̀ àjọṣe àti ẹ̀bùn wọn.
He argued that he had sworn an oath to Allah,
Ó jíyàn pé òun ti búra fún Ọlọ́hun,
Not to marry his daughter to anyone without a profession.
Láti má ṣe fẹ́ ọmọ òun fún ẹnikẹ́ni tí kò ní iṣẹ́ ọwọ́.
So fate decreed for my hardship,
Nítorí náà, kadara pín ìpọ́njú fún mi,
And my affliction.
