الْمَقَامَةُ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةُ

I am a woman from the noblest of origins,

Èmi jẹ́ obìnrin láti inú ẹ̀yà tí ó gbajúmọ̀ jùlọ,

And the purest of lineages,

Àti láti inú ìdílé tí ó mọ́ jùlọ,

Of the most honorable maternal and paternal uncles.

Láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n àti àbúrò bàbá tí ó ní iyì jùlọ.

My distinguishing mark is chastity,

Àmì mi ni ìwà mímọ́,

My nature is gentleness,

Ìwà mi ni ìwà tútù,

And my character is the best of helpers.

Ìwà mi sì ni olùrànlọ́wọ́ tí ó dára jùlọ.

There's a gap between me and my neighbors.

Ìyàtọ̀ ńlá wà láàrin èmi àti àwọn aládùúgbò mi.

When the builders of glory proposed to me,

Nígbà tí àwọn olókìkí bá fẹ́ fẹ́ mi,

And the masters of fortune,

Àti àwọn olórí ọrọ̀,

My father silenced and rebuked them,
