الْمَقَامَةُ الشِّعرية

Chanting in gratitude for his favors.

Wọ́n ń kọrin ìdúpẹ́ fún àánú rẹ̀.

I followed them to know their abode.

Mo tẹ̀ lé wọn láti mọ ibi tí wọ́n ń gbé.

And to gain from their conversation.

Àti láti kó ẹ̀kọ́ kúrò nínú ìjíròrò wọn.

When we passed the governor's domain.

Nígbà tí a kọjá àgbègbè alákòóso náà.

And reached the open space.

Àti pé a dé ibi tí ó ṣíṣé.

One of his guards caught up with me.

Ọ̀kan nínú àwọn olùṣọ́ rẹ̀ dé mi.

Summoning me to his presence.

Ó ń pè mí síwájú rẹ̀.

I said to Abu Zayd: I think he summoned me.

Mo sọ fún Abu Zayd pé: Mo ro pé ó pè mí.

Only to inquire of me.

Nìkan láti bi mí léèrè.

So what should I say?

Nítorí náà, kí ni mo yẹ kí n sọ?
