لَدنـاً شَديـدٌ غَمـزُهُ إِذا عَـسـا.


English

Soft, yet firm when pressed with force.

Rọrùn, ṣùgbọ́n líle nígbà tí a bá fi agbára tẹ̀ é.

مَن ظَلَمَ النـاسَ تَحامَـوا ظُلمَـهُ.


English

He who wrongs people, they avoid his injustice.

Yoruba

Ẹni tí ó bá ṣe àwọn ènìyàn lòdì, wọ́n máa yà kúrò ní ìkà rẹ̀.

وَعَـزَّ عَنهُـم جانِبـاهُ وَاِحتَمـى.


English

His sides are estranged from them, and he is isolated.

Àwọn ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀ yà kúrò lọ́dọ̀ wọn, ó sì di ẹni àìlera.

وَهُـم لِمَـن لانَ لَهُـم جانِـبُـهُ.


English

Yet to one who softens his side to them.

Ṣùgbọ́n fún ẹni tí ó bá rọrùn sí wọn.

أَظلَمُ مِـن حَيّـاتِ أَنبـاثِ السَفـا.


English

They are more unjust than serpents of the desert sands.

Wọ́n burú ju ejò aginjù lọ.

226

وَالناسُ كُـلّاً إِن فَحَصـتَ عَنهُـم.


English

And people, if you examine them all.

Àwọn ènìyàn, tí o bá ṣàyẹ̀wò gbogbo wọn.

جَميـعَ أَقطـارِ البِـلادِ وَالقُـرى.


English

Across all regions and villages.

Yoruba

Káàkiri gbogbo agbègbè àti abúlé.

عَبيدُ ذي المالِ وَإِن لَـم يَطمَعـوا.


English

They are slaves to wealth, even if they do not covet it.

Yoruba

Wọ́n jẹ́ ẹrú owó, bí wọ́n kò bá fẹ́ràn rẹ̀.

مِن غَمرِهِ في جَرعَةٍ تَشفي الصَدى.


English

From its abundance, even a sip quenches thirst.

Yoruba

Nínú ìpọ̀lọpọ̀ rẹ̀, ìmúra kan lè tú ìfẹ́ omi kúrò.

وَهُـم لِمَـن أَملَـقَ أَعـداءٌ وَإِن.


English

But they are enemies to the poor, even if.
