شارَكَهُـم فيهـا أَفـادَ وَحَــوى.
He shared with them, benefited and possessed.
Ó bá wọn pín, ó rí èrè, ó sì ní ìní.
عاجَمتُ أَيّامي وَمـا الغِـرُّ كَمَـن.
I wrestled with my days, unlike the naïve.
Mo bá ọjọ́ mi ja, kò dà bí ẹni àìmọ̀.
تَـأَزّرَ الدَهـرُ عَلَيـهِ وَاِرتَــدى.
Whom time has clothed and wrapped around.
Ẹni tí àkókò ti fi aṣọ bo, tí ó sì fi aṣọ dì í.
لا يَنفَـعُ اللُـبُّ بِـلا جَــدٍّ وَلا.
Intellect is useless without earnest effort.
Ọgbọ́n kò ní ìrànlọ́wọ́ láìsí ìsapá gidi.
يَحُطُّـكَ الجَهـلُ إِذا الجَـدُّ عَـلا.
Ignorance will abase you when diligence rises.
Àìmọ̀ máa dín ọ kù nígbà tí ìsapá bá gòkè.
مَـن لَـم تُفِـدهُ عِبَـراً أَيّـامُـهُ.
He whose days do not grant him lessons.
Ẹni tí ọjọ́ rẹ̀ kò fún ní ẹ̀kọ́.
كانَ العَمى أَولى بِهِ مِـن الهُـدى.
Blindness is more fitting for him than guidance.
Ìfọ́jú dára jù ìtọ́nisọ́nà lọ fún un.
مَن لَم يَعِظهُ الدَهرُ لَم يَنفَعـهُ مـا.
He whom time does not admonish, nothing will benefit him.
Ẹni tí àkókò kò kọ́, kò sí ohun tí yóò ran án lọ́wọ́.
راح بِهِ الواعِـظُ يَومـاً أَو غَـدا.
Not even the preacher’s words today or tomorrow.
Kò sí ìtọ́nisọ́nà alárìnjó lónìí tàbí lọ́la tí yóò ran án lọ́wọ́.
مَن قاسَ ما لَم يَـرَهُ بِمـا يـرى.
He who measures the unseen by what he sees.
Ẹni tí ó fi ohun tí kò rí ṣe àfihàn nípasẹ̀ ohun tí ó rí.
