نَدامَـةً أَلـذَعَ مِـن سَفـع الذكـا.
A regret sharper than the blaze of fire.
Ìbànújẹ tó lágbára ju iná lọ.
مَن ناطَ بِالعُجـبِ عُـرى أَخلاقِـهِ.
He who ties his morals to arrogance.
Ẹni tí ó fi ìwà rẹ̀ so mọ́ ìgbéraga.
نيطَت عُرى المَقتِ إِلى تِلكِ العُرى.
Binds himself to the ropes of hatred.
Ó fi ara rẹ̀ so mọ́ òkè ìkórìíra.
مَن طالَ فَـوقَ مُنتَهـى بَسطَتِـهِ.
He who stretches beyond his reach.
Ẹni tí ó gòkè ju ìwọ̀n agbára rẹ̀ lọ.
أَعجَزَهُ نَيلُ الدُنـى بَلـه القُصـا.
Fails to attain even the near, let alone the far.
Kò lè ṣàṣeyọrí nípa ohun tó sún mọ́ ọn, kì í ṣe ohun tó jìnnà.
مَن رامَ مـا يَعجـزُ عَنـهُ طَوقُـهُ.
He who seeks what is beyond his strength.
Ẹni tí ó ń wá ohun tí agbára rẹ̀ kò lè ṣe.
م العِبءِ يَوماً آضَ مَجزولَ المَطـا.
Will one day be burdened, his back broken.
Yóò di ẹni tí ẹrù pa, ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀ á fọ́.
وَالنـاسُ أَلـفٌ مِنهُـمُ كَـواحِـدٍ.
And people are a thousand, yet like one.
Àwọn ènìyàn jẹ́ ẹgbẹ̀rún, ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹni kan.
وَواحِـدٌ كَالأَلـفِ إِن أَمـرٌ عَنـا.
And one is like a thousand if destiny decrees.
Ẹni kan lè dà bí ẹgbẹ̀rún tí ayànmọ́ bá sọ pé bẹ́ẹ̀.
وَلِلفَتـى مِـن مالِـهِ مـا قَدَّمَـت.
For the youth, from his wealth is only what his hands sent forth.
Fún ọdọ́, lára owó rẹ̀ ni ohun tí ọwọ́ rẹ̀ ti rán síwájú.
