Wọ́n kó jọ láti ọ̀nà oríṣìíríṣìí wá sí i, ó sì gba wọ́n mọ́ra.

It dimmed faintly, then passed as though

Ó dà bíi pé ó ṣùrú díẹ̀, lẹ́yìn náà ó kọjá bíi pé

With the dawn, a caravan from Uhāḍah fleeing in haste.

Pẹ̀lú àárọ̀, ìrìnàjò láti Uhāḍah ń sá lọ́fà.

And the face of the earth grew familiar when it was spread upon.

Ilẹ̀ náà di ẹni tí a mọ̀ nígbà tí a fi hàn gbangba.

By calm seasons, barren years announce it.

Àwọn àkókò ìdákẹ́jẹ̀, ọdún àìní ló ń fi hàn.

I balance a carved stone, as though its facets

Mo dọ́gba òkúta tí a gbẹ̀, bíi pé àwọn ojú rẹ̀

Were dice cast by a player, set in likeness.

Bíi díìsì tí olùṣeré ju, tí wọ́n di àpẹẹrẹ.

If Umm Qastal laments al-Shanfara,

Tí Ìyá Qastal bá ń sunkún Shanfara,

She had not rejoiced in him before for long.

Kò tíì ní ayọ̀ pẹ́ nípa rẹ̀ ṣáájú.

A fugitive of crimes, his flesh torn aside.

Àrìnrìn àjò ẹ̀ṣẹ̀, ẹran rẹ̀ ni wọ́n ya sọ́tọ̀.
