الْمَقَامَةُ الْكُوفِيَّةُ

101

وَمَنْزِلٍ حِلْفِ فَقْرٍ؟


English

And a dwelling sworn to poverty?

Àti ibùgbé tí ó jẹ́ bùkún òsì?

102

وَلَكِنْ يَا فَتَى مَا اسْمُكَ.


English

But, O young man, what is your name?

Yoruba

Ṣùgbọ́n, ìwọ ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin, kí ni orúkọ rẹ?

103

فَقَدْ فَتَنَنِي فَهْمُكَ؟


English

For your understanding has captivated me?

Yoruba

Nítorí òye rẹ ti gbá mi lọ́kàn?

104

فَقَالَ: اسْمِي زَيْدٌ.


English

He said: My name is Zayd.

Yoruba

Ó sọ pé: Orúkọ mi ni Seidu.

105

وَمَنْشَإِي فَيْدٌ.


English

And my origin is Fayd.

Ìbí mi sì ni Fáídì.

106

وَوَرَدْتُ هَذِهِ الْمَدْرَةَ أَمْسِ.


English

And I arrived at this town yesterday.

Yoruba

Mo sì dé ìlú yìí lánàá.

107

مَعَ أَخْوَالِي مِنْ بَنِي عَبْسٍ.


English

With my maternal uncles from Bani Abs.

Yoruba

Pẹ̀lú àwọn ẹ̀gbọ́n ìyá mi láti ẹ̀yà Bani Absi.

108

فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: زِدْنِي إِيضَاحًا عِشْتَ.


English

I said to him: Give me more explanation, may you live long.

Yoruba

Mo sọ fún un pé: Ṣàlàyé sí i, kí ọjọ́ rẹ gùn.

وَنَعِشْتَ!


English

And may you prosper!

Yoruba

Kí o sì ṣe rere!

110

فَقَالَ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي أُمِّي بَرَّةُ.


English

He said: My mother Barrah informed me.

Yoruba

Ó sọ pé: Ìyá mi Bárà sọ fún mi.
