Chapter 9

121

English

And said to them: Sustain yourselves with this little sustenance, and moisten yourselves with this little moisture.

Yoruba

Ó sì sọ fún wọn pé: Ẹ fi èyí ṣe oúnjẹ díẹ̀, kí ẹ sì fi èyí ṣe omi díẹ̀.

122

English

And be patient against the schemes of time and its toil.

Yoruba

Kí ẹ sì ní sùúrù sí àwọn ẹ̀tàn àkókò àti làálàá rẹ̀.

123

English

Perhaps Allah will bring about victory or a matter from Him.

Yoruba

Ó ṣe é ṣe kí Ọlọ́hun mú àṣẹyọrí wá tàbí ọ̀rọ̀ kan láti ọ̀dọ̀ Rẹ̀.

124

English

So they rose, and the old man had the joy of one released from captivity, and the excitement of one who becomes wealthy after poverty.

Yoruba

Wọ́n sì dìde, àgbàlagbà náà sì ní ayọ̀ bí ẹni tí a tú sílẹ̀ kúrò nínú ẹ̀wọ̀n, àti inú dídùn ẹni tó di ọlọ́rọ̀ lẹ́yìn òṣì.

125

English

The narrator said: I had known he was Abu Zayd the moment his sun rose and his wife provoked him.

Yoruba

Olúsọ ìtàn náà sọ pé: Mo ti mọ̀ pé Abu seidu ni nígbà tí òòrùn rẹ̀ yọ jáde tí aya rẹ̀ sì mú un bínú.

126

English

I almost revealed his artistry and the fruits of his diverse talents.

Yoruba

Mo fẹ́rẹ̀ẹ́ sọ nípa ọgbọ́n rẹ̀ àti èso àwọn ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ẹ̀bùn rẹ̀.

127

English

Then I feared the judge would discover his lies and the embellishments of his tongue.

Yoruba

Lẹ́yìn náà mo bẹ̀rù pé adájọ́ le è ṣe àwárí irọ́ rẹ̀ àti ìlọ́ṣọ ahọ́n rẹ̀.

128

English

So that when he knows, he would not consider him for his kindness.

Yoruba

Kí ó má ba kọ di àánú rẹ̀ nígbà tí ó bá mọ̀ ọ́n.

129

English

So I refrained from speaking like one in doubt, and I folded up his mention as a scroll is folded for a book.

Yoruba

Nítorí náà, mo dákẹ́ bí ẹni tí ó ní iyèméjì, mo sì pa ìrántí rẹ̀ mọ́ bí a ti ń pa ìwé ìkọ̀wé mọ́.

130

English

Except that I said after he had departed and reached where he reached:

Yoruba
