مُدَعثَرِ الأَعضـادِ مَهـزومِ الجَبـا.

كَأَنَّمـا الريـشُ عَلـى أَرجـائِـهِ.


English

As though feathers upon its edges.

Bíi pé ewé ń bò ó ní àgbègbè rẹ̀.

زُرقُ نِصـالٍ أُرهِفَـت لِتُمتَـهـى.


English

Blue blades sharpened to an end.

وَرَدتُـهُ وَالذِئـبُ يَعـوي حَولَـهُ.


English

I approached it while the wolf howled around.

Mo dé síbẹ̀ nígbà tí kìnnìún ń ké ní àgbègbè rẹ̀.

مُستَكَّ سمِّ السَمعِ مِن طَولِ الطوى.


English

Deafened by hunger’s poison from prolonged fasting.

Ìgbọ́ tí ebi pa láti inú àwẹ́ tó pé.

وَمُنـتـجٍ أُمُّ أَبـيــهِ أُمُّـــهُ.


English

A newborn whose mother is the mother of his father.

Ọmọ tuntun tí ìyá rẹ̀ jẹ́ ìyá bàbá rẹ̀.

لَم يَتَخَوَّن جِسمَهُ مَـسّ الضـوى.


English

His body was not betrayed by the touch of weakness.

Ara rẹ̀ kò ní ìfarapa tàbí àìlera.

أَفرَشتُـهُ بِنـتَ أَخيـهِ فَاِنثَـنَـت.


English

I laid him upon his brother’s daughter, and she turned away.

Mo fi í sórí ọmọbìnrin arákùnrin rẹ̀, ó sì yí sílẹ̀.

عَن وَلَدٍ يـورى بِـهِ وَيُشتَـوى.


English

From a child who gives light and warmth.

Láti ọdọ́ ọmọ tí ń tan ìmọ́lẹ̀ àti ìtútù.

وَمَرقَـبٍ مُخلَـولِـقٍ أَرجــاؤُهُ.


English

And a watchtower whose sides are worn and broken.

Àgọ́ ìṣọ́ tí ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀ ti bàjẹ́.
