الْمَقَامَةُ الْكُوفِيَّةُ

161

مِنَ الْحَنِينِ إِلَى وَلَدِي.


English

From longing for my son.

Yoruba

Nítorí ìfẹ́ ọmọ mi.

162

فَوَصَلْتُ جَنَاحَهُ.


English

So I joined his wing.

Yoruba

Nítorí náà, mo darapọ̀ mọ́ ìyẹ́ rẹ̀.

حَتَّى سَنّيتُ نَجَاحَهُ.


English

Until I facilitated his success.

Yoruba

Títí tí mo fi mú kí ó ṣe àṣeyọrí.

164

فَحِينَ أَحْرَزَ الْعَيْنَ فِي صُرَّتِهِ.


English

When he secured the money in his purse.

Yoruba

Nígbà tí ó fi owó náà pamọ́ sínú àpò rẹ̀.

165

فَرَقَتْ أَسَارِيرُ مَسَرَّتِهِ.


English

The lines of his joy brightened.

Yoruba

Àwọn ìlà ayọ̀ rẹ̀ mọ́lẹ̀.

166

وَقَالَ لِي: جُزِيتَ خَيْرًا عَنْ خَطَا قَدَمَيْكَ.


English

And he said to me: May you be rewarded well for your footsteps.

Yoruba

Ó sì sọ fún mi pé: Kí Ọlọ́run san ọ́ lẹ́san rere fún ìrìn ẹsẹ̀ rẹ.

وَاللهُ خَلِيفَتِي عَلَيْكَ.


English

And may Allah be my successor over you.

Yoruba

Kí Ọlọ́run jẹ́ arọ́pò mi lórí rẹ.

168

فَقُلْتُ: أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَتْبَعَكَ لِأُشَاهِدَ وَلَدَكَ النَّجِيبَ.


English

I said: I want to follow you to see your noble son.

Mo sọ pé: Mo fẹ́ tẹ̀lé ọ láti rí ọmọ rẹ ọlọ́gbọ́n,

وَأُنَافِثَهُ لِكَيْ يُجِيبَ.


English

And to converse with him so that he may respond.

Yoruba

Kí n sì bá a sọ̀rọ̀ kí ó lè dáhùn.

170

فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ نَظْرَةَ الْخَادِعِ إِلَى الْمَخْدُوعِ.


English

He looked at me with the look of a deceiver to the deceived.

Yoruba

Ó wò mí pẹ̀lú ìwòye ẹlẹ́tàn sí ẹni tí a tàn jẹ.
