الْمَقَامَةُ الْكُوفِيَّةُ

21

قَالَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ هَمَّامٍ: فَلَمَّا خَلَبَنَا بِعُذُوبَةِ نُطْقِهِ.


English

Al-Harith bin Hammam said: When he captivated us with the sweetness of his speech.

Hárìsù ọmọ Hammámì sọ pé: Nígbà tí ó fi adùn ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ gbá wa lọ́kàn.

وَعَلِمْنَا مَا وَرَاءَ بَرْقِهِ.


English

And we knew what was behind his lightning.

Yoruba

A sì mọ ohun tí ó wà lẹ́yìn mọ̀nàmọ́ná rẹ̀.

23

اِبْتَدَرْنَا فَتْحَ الْبَابِ.


English

We hastened to open the door.

Yoruba

A yára láti ṣí ìlẹ̀kùn.

24

وَتَلَقَّيْنَاهُ بِالتَّرْحَابِ.


English

And we received him with welcome.

Yoruba

A sì fi inú dídùn gbà á.

25

وَقُلْنَا لِلْغُلَامِ: هَيَّا هَيَّا. وَهَلُمَّ مَا تَهَيَّأَ!


English

And we said to the boy: Come on, come on. And bring what is prepared!

Yoruba

A sì sọ fún ọmọdé náà pé: Yára, yára. Kí o sì mú ohun tí a ti pèsè wá!

فَقَالَ الضَّيْفُ: وَالَّذِي أَحَلَّنِي ذَرَاكُمْ.


English

The guest said: By Him who brought me to your threshold.

Yoruba

Àlejò náà sì wí pé: Ní orúkọ Ẹni tí ó mú mi wá sí ẹnu-ọ̀nà yín.

27

لَا تَلَمَّظْتُ بِقِرَاكُمْ.


English

I will not taste your hospitality.

Yoruba

N kò ní tọ́wọ́ bọ oúnjẹ yín.

28

أَوْ تَضْمَنُوا لِي أَنْ لَا تَتَّخِذُونِي كَلًّا.


English

Unless you guarantee me that you will not consider me a burden.

Yoruba

Àyàfi tí ẹ bá ṣèlérí pé ẹ kò ní kà mí sí bùkátà,

29

وَلَا تَجَشَّمُوا لِأَجْلِي أَكْلًا.


English

And that you will not trouble yourselves with preparing food for me.

Yoruba

Àti pé ẹ kò ní ṣe wàhálà láti pèsè oúnjẹ fún mi.

30

فَرُبَّ أَكْلَةٍ هَاضَتِ الْآكِلَ.


English

For many a meal has troubled the eater.

Yoruba

Nítorí ọ̀pọ̀ oúnjẹ ni ó ti fa ìyọnu fún ajẹun.
