Chapter 5

الْمَقَامَةُ الْكُوفِيَّةُ

31

وَحَرَمَتْهُ مَآكِلَ.


English

And deprived him of [future] meals.

Tí ó sì ti jẹ́ kí ó pàdánù oúnjẹ mìíràn.

32

وَشَرُّ الْأَضْيَافِ مَنْ سَامَ التَّكْلِيفَ.


English

The worst of guests is he who imposes hardship.

Yoruba

Àlejò tí kò dára jù ni èyí tí ó mú ìnira bá ẹni.

33

وَآذَى الْمُضِيفَ.


English

And harms the host.

Yoruba

Tí ó sì ń ṣe olugbalejo léṣe.

34

خُصُوصًا أَذًى يَعْتَلِقُ بِالْأَجْسَامِ.


English

Especially harm that affects the bodies.

Yoruba

Pàápàá ìpalára tí ó ní ṣe pẹ̀lú ara.

35

وَيُفْضِي إِلَى الْأَسْقَامِ.


English

And leads to illnesses.

Yoruba

Tí ó sì ń fa àìsàn.

36

وَمَا قِيلَ فِي الْمَثَلِ الَّذِي سَارَ سَائِرُهُ:


English

And what was said in the proverb that has become widespread:

Yoruba

Ohun tí a sọ nínú òwe tí ó ti tàn káàkiri ni pé:

37

خَيْرُ الْعَشَاءِ سَوَافِرُهُ.


English

The best dinner is that which comes early.

Yoruba

Oúnjẹ alẹ́ tí ó dára jù ni èyí tí ó wá ní kíkíá.

38

إِلَّا لِيُعَجِّلَ التَّعَشِّي.


English

Is only to hasten the evening meal.

Yoruba

Àyàfi láti mú kí oúnjẹ alẹ́ wá kíákíá ni.

39

وَيُجْتَنَبَ أَكْلُ اللَّيْلِ الَّذِي يُعْشِي.


English

And to avoid night eating which dims the sight.

Yoruba

Àti láti yẹra fún jíjẹun lálẹ́ tí ó máa ń pa ojú lára.

40

اللَّهُمَّ إِلَّا أَنْ تَقِدَ نَارُ الْجُوعِ.


English

Unless the fire of hunger is ignited.

Yoruba

Àyàfi tí ebi bá ń pa ni gidigidi.
