Chapter 5

الْمَقَامَةُ الْكُوفِيَّةُ

41

وَتَحُولَ دُونَ الْهُجُوعِ.


English

And prevents sleep.

Tí ó sì ń dí oorun lọ́wọ́.

42

قَالَ: فَكَأَنَّهُ اطَّلَعَ عَلَى إِرَادَتِنَا.


English

He said: It was as if he had seen into our intentions.

Ó sọ pé: Ó dàbí ẹni pé ó ti mọ èrò wa.

43

فَرَمَى عَنْ قَوْسِ عَقِيدَتِنَا.


English

So he shot from the bow of our beliefs.

Ó sì ta ọfà láti ọrun ìgbàgbọ́ wa.

44

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّا آنَسْنَاهُ بِالْتِزَامِ الشَّرْطِ.


English

No wonder we comforted him by committing to the condition.

Kò sí iyànu pé a tù ú nínú nípa fífi ara mọ́ àdéhùn náà.

45

وَأَثْنَيْنَا عَلَى خُلُقِهِ السَّبْطِ.


English

And we praised his gentle character.

A sì yin ìwà tútù rẹ̀.

46

وَلَمَّا أَحْضَرَ الْغُلَامُ مَا رَاجَ.


English

And when the boy brought what was available.

Nígbà tí ọmọdé náà mú ohun tí ó wà wá.

47

وَأَذْكَى بَيْنَنَا السِّرَاجَ.


English

And lit the lamp among us.

Yoruba

Tí ó sì tan fìtílà láàrin wa.

48

تَأَمَّلْتُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ أَبُو زَيْدٍ


English

I looked at him closely and behold, it was Abu Zayd.

Yoruba

Mo wò ó fínní fínní, sì wò ó, Abu Seidu ni.

49

فَقُلْتُ لِصَحْبِي: لِيَهْنَأْكُمُ الضَّيْفُ الْوَارِدُ.


English

So I said to my companions: May you enjoy the arriving guest.

Yoruba

Mo sì sọ fún àwọn ẹlẹgbẹ́ mi pé: Kí ẹ ní inú dídùn sí àlejò tí ó dé yìí.

50

بَلِ الْمَغْنَمُ الْبَارِدُ.


English

Rather, it is the easy gain.

Yoruba

Kàkà bẹ́ẹ̀, ère tí kò nílò làálàá ni.
