الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَعَرِّيَّةُ

And the judge's irritation did not subside since his stone became moist, nor did his grief fade since his rock sweated.

Ìbínú adájọ́ kò rẹ̀ láti ìgbà tí òkúta rẹ̀ di tutù, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ìbànújẹ́ rẹ̀ kò fọ́ láti ìgbà tí àpáta rẹ̀ ń làágùn.

Until when he recovered from his swoon, he turned to his retinue.

Títí tí ó fi padà bọ̀ sípò láti inú ìdàkẹ́ rẹ̀, ó sì yípadà sí àwọn ọmọ ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀.

And he said: My senses have been imbued, and my intuition has prompted me.

Ó sì wí pé: A ti fi ìmọ̀lára mi sí i, ìmọ̀ àmì mi sì ti gbè mí dìde.

Are they not companions of cunning, not adversaries of claim?

Ṣé wọn kì í ṣe àwọn alágbári ẹ̀tàn, kì í ṣe àwọn ọ̀tá ẹ̀sùn?

So how is the way to probe them and deduce their secret?

Báwo ni a ṣe lè wádìí wọn tí a sì lè mọ àṣírí wọn?

Nítorí náà ó rán olùrànlọ́wọ́ kan lẹ́yìn wọn láti mú wọn padà. Nígbà tí wọ́n dúró níwájú rẹ̀,

He said to them: Tell me the truth of your scheme, and you have safety from the consequences of your deceit.

Ó sọ fún wọn pé: Ẹ sọ òtítọ́ ète yín fún mi, ẹ ó sì ní ààbò kúrò nínú àbájáde ẹ̀tàn yín.

The youth held back and resigned, while the elder came forward and said:

Ọ̀dọ́ náà fàsẹ́yìn ó sì fàyè, nígbà tí àgbàlagbà náà bọ́ síwájú ó sì wí pé:

I am Al-Saruji and this is my son, and the cub in nature is like the lion
