الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَعَرِّيَّةُ

Nígbà tí adájọ́ gbọ́ àwọn ìtàn wọn tí ó sì mọ òṣì wọn àti ipò pàtàkì wọn.

Ó yọ owó dínárì kan fún wọn láti abẹ́ ìtẹ́ ìgbàdúrà rẹ̀.

And he said to them: End your dispute with this and settle it.

Ó sì wí fún wọn pé: Ẹ fi èyí parí ìjà yín kí ẹ sì ṣe ìpinnu.

The elder snatched it before the youth, and took it in all seriousness, not in jest.

Àgbàlagbà náà já a gbà ṣáájú ọ̀dọ́ náà, ó sì gbà á pẹ̀lú ìfarabàlẹ̀, kì í ṣe ní ẹlẹ́yà.

And he said to the youth: Half of it is mine for my kindness, and your share is mine for the compensation of my needle. I do not deviate from justice. So stand and take the kohl stick.

Ó sì wí fún ọ̀dọ́ náà pé: Ìdajì rẹ̀ jẹ́ tèmi fún inú rere mi, ìpín tirẹ̀ sì jẹ́ tèmi fún ìsan abẹ́rẹ́ mi. Èmi kò yapa kúrò nínú òdodo. Nítorí náà, dìde kí o sì mú igi tìrò náà.

The youth was overcome with depression at what happened, and clouds darkened his sky.

Ìbànújẹ́ bo ọ̀dọ́ náà mọ́lẹ̀ fún ohun tí ó ṣẹlẹ̀, àwọn àwọ̀sánmà sì ṣú ojú ọ̀run rẹ̀.

Ó sì wí fún wọn pé: Ẹ yẹra fún àwọn ìdúnàdúrà, kí ẹ sì kórí ìjà. Ẹ má ṣe wá sọ́dọ̀ mi fún ìdájọ́, nítorí èmi kò ní àpò ìtanràn.

So they rose from his presence, happy with his gift, expressing their praise.

Nítorí náà, wọ́n dìde kúrò níwájú rẹ̀, wọ́n yọ̀ pẹ̀lú ẹ̀bùn rẹ̀, wọ́n sì ń fi ìyìn wọn hàn.
