الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَعَرِّيَّةُ

Neither his hand nor mine ever touched a needle or a kohl stick

Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ọwọ́ rẹ̀ tàbí tèmi kò kan abẹ́rẹ́ tàbí igi tìrò

It is but the wrongdoing, transgressing time that inclined us until we became beggars

Ṣùgbọ́n àkókò búburú, aláìṣòdodo ni ó yí wa padà tí a fi di alágbe

From every generous, sweet-natured one, and every curly-palmed, chained-handed one

Láti ọwọ́ gbogbo ẹni tó ní ọwọ́ ìlàjà, tó ní ìwà dídára, àti gbogbo ẹni tó ní ọwọ́ kíkánjú, ọwọ́ dídè

With every art and every intent, with seriousness if beneficial, otherwise with play

Pẹ̀lú gbogbo ọgbọ́n àti gbogbo èrò, pẹ̀lú ìfarabàlẹ̀ bí ó bá wúlò, bí bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́ pẹ̀lú eré

To bring moisture to the thirsty fortune and spend life in miserable living

Láti mú omi wá sí ìbálẹ̀ orí tó ń pògbẹ kí a sì lo ìgbé ayé wa nínú ìṣòro

And death after that is lying in wait for us, if it doesn't appeared surprisingly today, it will tomorrow

Ikú sì ń dúró de wa lẹ́yìn èyí, bí kò bá já lù wá lóní, yóò já lù wá lọ́la

The judge said to him: God bless you! How sweet are the utterances of your mouth!

Adájọ́ sọ fún un pé: Kí Ọlọ́run bùkún ọ! Báwo ni ọ̀rọ̀ ẹnu rẹ ṣe dùn tó!

And praise for you, if not for the deception in you!

Órire ní fún ọ, bí kò bá sí ẹ̀tàn nínú rẹ!

And I am indeed among those who warn you, and you should be among the cautious!.

Mo sì wà lára àwọn tí ń kìlọ̀ fún ọ, kí ó sì wà lára àwọn tí ń ṣọ́ra nítorí.

So do not deceive the rulers after this, and fear the power of those in authority.

Nítorí náà, má ṣe tan àwọn aláṣẹ jẹ mọ́, kí o sì bẹ̀rù agbára àwọn tó wà lórí ìjọba.
