And the necklaces of the crowd scattered.
Àti pé ẹ̀gba ọ̀pọ̀ ènìyàn túká.
Then I headed to the governor's courtyard.
Lẹ́yìn náà mo lọ sí àgbàlá gómìnà náà.
And there was the old man, guarding the youth.
Nígbà náà ni àgbàlagbà náà wà, ó ń ṣọ́ ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin náà.
So I implored him by Allah, is he Abu Zaid?
Nítorí náà mo bẹ̀ ẹ́ lọ́wọ́ nípa orúkọ Ọlọ́hun, ṣé òun ni Abu Seidu?
He said: Yes, by Him who permitted the hunting,
Ó sọ pé: Bẹ́ẹ̀ni, ní orúkọ Ọlọhun tó gbà wá láyè di dẹdẹ.
I said: Who is this youth,
Mo sọ pé: Ta ni ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin yìí,
For whom dreams have yearned?
Ẹni tí àwọn àlá ti ń nifẹ́ si?
He said: In lineage, he is my offspring,
Ó sọ pé: Nínú ìdílé, òun ni ọmọ mi,
And in earnings, my trap
Àti nínú èrè, òun ni pakute mi!
I said: Why didn't you content yourself with the beauties of his nature?
Mo sọ pé: Kí ló dé tí o kò fi ni tẹ́ lọ́rùn pẹ̀lú àwọn ẹwà ìwà rẹ̀?
