الْمَقَامَةُ الرَّحْبِيَّةُ

So he said to the old man: Would you prefer what is more befitting for the stronger?

Nítorí náà ó sọ fún àgbàlagbà náà: Ṣé o fẹ́ ohun tí ó yẹ fún ẹni tí ó lágbára jù?

And closer to piety?

Àti ohun tí ó súnmọ́ ìwà-pẹ̀lẹ́?

He said: What are you suggesting that I should follow?

Ó sọ pé: Kí ni o ń dábàá tí mo lè tẹ̀lé?

And I won't oppose you in it.

Èmi kò ní takò ọ́ nínú rẹ̀.

He said: I think you should refrain from gossip and idle talk.

Ó sọ pé: Mo rò pé o yẹ kí o yẹra fún ọ̀rọ̀ asán àti ìsọkúsọ.

And settle for a hundred mithqals.

Kí o sì tẹ́wọ́ gba ọgọ́rùn-ún owo.

So that I may bear some of it.

Kí èmi lè ru apá kan rẹ̀.

And collect the rest for you as compensation.

Kí n sì gba ìyókù fún ọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ìsan padà.

The old man said: I have no objection.

Àgbàlagbà náà sọ pé: Èmi kò ní ìtakò.

So let there be no breaking of your promise.

Nítorí náà, má ṣe jẹ́ kí ìlérí rẹ di irọ.
