Àti àpò ìkọ̀wé mi pẹ̀lú kálàmù.
Then the young man said: To be warmed by calamity.
Nígbà náà ni ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin náà sọ pé: Láti gbóná nípasẹ̀ ìpọ́njú.
And not to swear by this oath.
Àti láti kọ láti búra pẹ̀lú ìbúra yìí.
And to submit to retaliation.
Àti láti tẹríba fún ẹ̀san.
And not to swear by that which no one has sworn by.
Àti láti má búra pẹ̀lú ohun tí ẹnikẹ́ni kò tí ì fi búra rí.
But the old man refused except to make him swallow the oath he had invented.
Ṣùgbọ́n àgbàlagbà náà kọ̀ láti jẹ́ kí ó mu ìbúra tí ó ṣẹ̀dá.
And he made him swallow it bitterly.
Ó sì mú kí ó gbé e mì pẹ̀lú ìkorò.
And the dispute between them continued to blaze.
Àti pé ìjà láàrín wọn kò dẹ́kun láti gbináá.
