seeking heavy rain and light drizzle,
tí ó ń wá òjò àrà àti erì,
and consoling myself with 'maybe' and 'perhaps'.
tí ó sì ń tù ara rẹ̀ nínú pẹ̀lú 'bóyá' àti 'ó ṣe é ṣe'.
When I arrived at Hulwan,
Nígbà tí mo dé Ḥulwán,
having tested brothers,
lẹ́yìn tí mo ti dán àwọn arákùnrin wò,
probed measures,
Ti mo sì tún wádìí àwọn òsùwọ̀n,
and experienced what disgraces and adorns,
kí n sì ní ìrírí ohun tí ó ń ba ni jẹ́ àti èyí tí ó ń ṣe ọ̀ṣọ́,
I found there Abu Zayd as-Saruji, shifting between forms of affiliation,
Mo rí Abú Seidu omo ilu Sarújì níbẹ̀, tí ó ń yí padà láàárín àwọn ọ̀nà ìbágbépọ̀,
and stumbling through means of acquisition.
tí ó sì ń kọsẹ̀ láàárín àwọn ọ̀nà ìjẹ àti mímú,
Sometimes he would claim to be from the family of Sasan,
Nígbà míràn yóò máa sọ pé ó wá láti ìdílé Sásán,
and other times he would trace his lineage to the chiefs of Ghassan.
nígbà míràn yóò sì máa ṣàfihàn pé ó jẹ́ ọmọ àwọn olórí Ghassán.
