الْمَقَامَةُ الْحُلْوَانِيَّةُ

Títí tí n kò fi mọ̀ ọ́ mọ́?

And what has whitened your beard?

Kí ni ó sì ti sọ irùngbọ̀n rẹ di funfun?

Until I denied your ornament?

Títí tí mo fi sẹ́ ọ̀ṣọ́ rẹ?

Then he began to say:

Nígbà náà ni ó bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí sọ:

The fall of calamities whitens, and time turns people upside down.

Ìṣubú àwọn ìpọ́njú ń sọ ní funfun, àkókò sì ń yí ènìyàn lórí kodò.

If it submits to someone one day, the next day it overpowers.

Bí ó bá tẹríba fún ẹnìkan lónìí, ní ọ̀la ó máa ṣẹ́gun.

Don't trust a flash of its lightning, for it is deceptive.

Má ṣe gbẹ́kẹ̀lé ìmọ́lẹ̀ àrà rẹ̀, nítorí ó jẹ́ ẹ̀tàn.

Be patient when it inflicts calamities upon you and incites.

Ní sùúrù nígbà tí ó bá mú àwọn ìpọ́njú bá ọ àti rú ọ sókè.

There is no shame on gold when it is turned in the fire.

Kò sí ìtìjú fún wúrà nígbà tí a bá yí i ní iná.
