Chapter 2

الْمَقَامَةُ الْحُلْوَانِيَّةُ

101

وَهَلْ حَيٌّ قَائِلُهُ أَوْ مَيِّتٌ؟


English

And is its speaker alive or dead?

Ṣé ẹni tí ó sọ ọ́ ṣì wà láàyè tàbí ó ti kú?

102

فَقَالَ: أَيْمُ اللَّهِ لَلْحَقُّ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُتَّبَعَ.


English

He said: By Allah, truth is more worthy to be followed,

Yoruba

Ó dáhùn: Ní ti Ọlọ́run, òtítọ́ ló yẹ láti tẹ̀lé,

103

وَلَلصِّدْقُ حَقِيقٌ بِأَنْ يُسْتَمَعَ!


English

and honesty deserves to be heard!

Yoruba

òdodo sì yẹ kí a gbọ́!

104

إِنَّهُ يَا قَوْمُ.


English

O people, it is

Yoruba

Ẹ̀yin ènìyàn, ó jẹ́

105

لنَجِيكُمْ مُذُ الْيَوْمِ.


English

by the one conversing with you since today.

Yoruba

ẹni tí ó ń ba yín sọrọ láti òní.

106

قَالَ: فَكَأَنَّ الْجَمَاعَةَ ارْتَابَتْ بِعَزْوَتِهِ.


English

He said: It was as if the group doubted his claim,

Yoruba

Ó sọ: Ó dà bí pé àwọn ènìyàn náà ṣe iyèméjì sí àpe mọ́ra rẹ̀,

107

وَأَبَتْ تَصْدِيقَ دَعْوَتِهِ.


English

and refused to believe his assertion.

Yoruba

wọ́n sì kọ̀ láti gba ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ gbọ́.

108

فَتَوَجَّسَ مَا هَجَسَ فِي أَفْكَارِهِمْ.


English

He sensed what stirred in their thoughts,

Yoruba

Ó mọ ohun tí ń lọ nínú èrò wọn,

109

وَفَطِنَ لِمَا بَطَنَ مِنِ اسْتِنْكَارِهِمْ.


English

and perceived what was hidden of their disapproval.

Yoruba

ó sì mọ̀ ohun tí wọ́n fi pamọ́ nínú àìkogba wọn.

110

وَحَاذَرَ أَنْ يَفْرُطَ إِلَيْهِ ذَمٌّ.


English

He was cautious lest blame should befall him,

Ó ṣọ́ra kí ẹ̀sùn má ba à dé bá a,
