The narrator of this story said:
Olùsọ ìtàn yìí sọ pé:
When I saw the burning of his ember,
Nígbà tí mo rí bí iná rẹ̀ ṣe ń jó,
and the brilliance of his manifestation,
àti ìtànṣán ìfarahàn rẹ̀,
I scrutinized his appearance.
Mo ṣàyẹ̀wò ìrísí rẹ̀ dáadáa.
I gazed upon his features.
Mo tẹjúmọ́ àwọn ìwọ̀n rẹ̀.
And behold, it was our Sheikh as-Saruji.
Ó sì jẹ́ pé, ó jẹ́ baba wa yen omo ilu Saruji.
His dark night had turned moonlit.
Òru dúdú rẹ̀ ti di òru òṣùpá.
So I congratulated myself on his arrival.
Nítorí náà mo kí ara mi kú oríire fún dídé rẹ̀.
And hastened to kiss his hand.
Mo sì yára láti fẹnu kó ọwọ́ rẹ̀.
I said to him: What has altered your appearance?
Mo sọ fún un: Kí ni ó ti yí ìrísí rẹ padà?
