الْمَقَامَةُ الْحُلْوَانِيَّةُ

mo sì ti fi àpò mi sílẹ̀ fún àgbéyẹ̀wò.

One of those present hastened,

Ọ̀kan nínú àwọn tí ó wà níbẹ̀ yára,

and said: I know a verse that has not been woven on its loom,

ó sì sọ: Mo mọ ẹsẹ ewì kan tí won kò tí ì hun lórí ìhunná rẹ̀,

nor has any talent allowed its like.

bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kò sí ọgbọ́n tí ó fàyè gba irú rẹ̀.

So if you prefer to captivate hearts,

Nítorí náà tí o bá fẹ́ láti fa ọkàn àwọn ènìyàn,

Then compose in this style.

Nígbà náà kọ ní irú àṣà yìí.

And he recited:

Ó sì kà jáde:

She rained pearls from Daffodils and watered

Ó rọ̀ iyùn láti inú ewé daffodil ó sì bọ́mi sí

roses and bit upon jujube with hail

àwọn ewé òdòdó ó sì gé jujube pẹ̀lú yìnyín

It was but as the twinkling of an eye, or even quicker.

Ó jẹ́ bí ìṣẹ́jú kan, tàbí kí ó kúrú ju bẹ́ẹ̀ lọ.
