الْمَقَامَةُ الْحُلْوَانِيَّةُ

nor did anyone who drove me to union with him excite me.

bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kò wunmi, ẹnìkan ti o fẹ́rán ibasepo mí pẹ̀lú rẹ̀,

No peer to his excellence appeared to me since he left,

Kò sí ẹni tí ó jọ ọ́ ní ọgbọ́n tí ó farahàn fún mi láti ìgbà tí ó lọ,

nor anyone possessing qualities like his qualities.

bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kò sí ẹni tí ó ní ìwà bí tirẹ̀.

And he hid from me for a while,

Ó sì fi ara pamọ́ fún mi fún ìgbà díẹ̀,

I knew not his den,

n kò mọ ibùgbé rẹ̀,

nor could I find anyone to explain about him.

bẹ́ẹ̀ ni n kò rí ẹni tí ó lè sọ nípa rẹ̀ fún mi.

When I returned from my long wandering,

Nígbà tí mo padà nibi jìnnà mi,

to the place of my origin,

sí aye ipilẹ ìjọ mi,

I attended its library which is the forum of the cultured.

Mo lọ sí ilé ìwé rẹ̀ tí í ṣe ibi ìpàdé àwọn onímọ̀.

And the meeting place of their residents and expatriates.

Àti ibi ìpàdé àwọn ọmọ ìlú àti àjèjì
