الْمَقَامَةُ الدِّمْيَاطِيَّةُ

31

سَمِعْتُ صَيِّتًا مِنَ الرِّجَالِ.


English

I heard a man with a loud voice,

Mo gbọ́ ohùn ọkùnrin kan tó loke,

32

يَقُولُ لِسَمِيرِهِ فِي الرِّحَالِ:


English

Saying to his night companion in the camps:

Yoruba

Tí ń sọ fún ẹlẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀ ní òru nínú àgọ́:

33

كَيْفَ حُكْمُ سِيرَتِكَ.


English

How is the rule of your conduct,

Yoruba

Báwo ni òfin ìwà rẹ,

34

مَعَ جِيلِكَ وَجِيرَتِكَ؟


English

With your generation and your neighbors?

Yoruba

Pẹ̀lú ìran rẹ àti àwọn aládùúgbò rẹ?

35

فَقَالَ: أَرْعَى الْجَارَ.


English

He said: I care for the neighbor,

Ó sọ pé: Mo ń tọ́jú aládùúgbò,

36

وَلَوْ جَارَ.


English

Even if he wrongs me.

Yoruba

Bí ó tilẹ̀ ṣe mí ní ibi.

37

وَأَبْذُلُ الْوِصَالَ.


English

And I offer connection,

Mo sì ń pèsè ìbágbépọ̀,

38

لِمَنْ صَالَ.


English

To those who attack.

Yoruba

Fún àwọn tí wọ́n kọlù mí.

39

وَأَحْتَمِلُ الْخَلِيطَ.


English

And I tolerate the companion,

Yoruba

Mo sì ń faradà ẹnìkejì,

40

وَلَوْ أَبْدَى التَّخْلِيطَ.


English

Even if he shows confusion.

Yoruba

Bí ó tilẹ̀ fi ìdàrúdàpọ̀ hàn.
