The piercing veil lifted from my eyes as dew.

Aṣọ tí ń bo ojú mi ti yọ, bí ìrì tó tú ká.

Unjust was the mother of the two boys.

Ìyá ọmọ méjì náà kò ṣe ìdájọ́ tó pé.

She struck the brother of patience before he was tested.

Ó kọlu arákùnrin sùúrù ṣáájú ìdánwò rẹ̀.

Be ashamed of the white ones among your flocks.

Jẹ́ kí o ní ìtìjú fún àwọn funfun láàárín agbo rẹ.

Lest the white ones lead you as the guided are led.

Kí àwọn funfun má bà ọ lọ́na bí ẹni tí a ń tọ́ sí ìtọ́nisọ́nà.

Far indeed, how ugly is this slip.

Kò ṣeé rí, báwo ni ìṣìnkú yìí ṣe burú tó bẹ́ẹ̀.

Is it joy after old age and clarity?

Ṣé ayọ̀ ni lẹ́yìn àgbàlagbà àti ìmọ̀lára?

O many a night that gathered its horizons for me.

Òru púpọ̀ tí ó kó gbogbo àfòjúdi rẹ̀ jọ fún mi.

The daughter of eighty, a bride unveiled.

Ọmọbìnrin ọdún mẹ́rìnlélọ́gọ́rin, ayaba tí a yọ aṣọ rẹ̀.

Water did not command her, nor rule her state.
