Chapter 7

الْمَقَامَةُ الْبَرْقَعِيدِيَّةُ

131

وَأَحْضَرْتُهُ عَجَالَةَ مَكْنَتِي


English

And I presented him with the hastily prepared food I had,

Tí mo sì gbé oúnjẹ tí mo ti pèsè kíákíá kalẹ̀ fún un,

قَالَ لِي: يَا حَارِثُ


English

He said to me: "O Harith,

Yoruba

Ó sọ fún mi pé: "Ìwọ Hárìsù,

133

أَمَعَنَا ثَالِثٌ؟


English

Is there a third person with us?"

Yoruba

Ǹjẹ́ ẹni kẹta wà pẹ̀lú wa?"

فَقُلْتُ: لَيْسَ إِلَّا الْعَجُوزُ.


English

So I said: It is none other than the old woman.

Yoruba

Nítorí náà mo sọ pé: Kò sí ẹlòmíràn bí kò ṣe arúgbó obìnrin náà.

135

قَالَ: مَا دُونَهَا سِرٌّ مَحْجُوزٌ.


English

He said: Beyond her no guarded secret.

Yoruba

Ó sọ pé: Lẹ́yìn rẹ̀ kò sí àṣírí tí a pamọ́.

136

ثُمَّ فَتَحَ كَرِيمَتَيْهِ.


English

Then he opened his noble eyes.

Yoruba

Lẹ́yìn náà ó ṣí ojú rẹ̀ tó ní iyì.

137

وَرَأْرَأَ بِتَوْأَمَتَيْهِ.


English

And moved his twin orbs.

Yoruba

Ó sì yí àwọn ẹ̀yinju méjì rẹ̀.

138

فَإِذَا سِرَاجَا وَجْهِهِ يَقِدَانِ.


English

Behold, the two lamps of his face were aflame.

Yoruba

Sì wò ó, àwọn àtùpà méjì ojú rẹ̀ ń jó.

139

كَأَنَّهُمَا الْفَرْقَدَانِ.


English

As if they were the two brightest stars.

Yoruba

Bí ẹni pé àwọn ni ìràwọ̀ méjì tó mọ́lẹ̀ jùlọ.

140

فَابْتَهَجْتُ بِسَلَامَةِ بَصَرِهِ.


English

I rejoiced at the soundness of his sight.

Yoruba

Mo yọ̀ nítorí pé ojú rẹ̀ dára.
