الْمَقَامَةُ الْبَرْقَعِيدِيَّةُ

181

فَلَمَّا عُدْتُ بِالْمُلْتَمَسِ.


English

When I returned with the requested items.

Nígbà tí mo padà wá pẹ̀lú àwọn ohun tí a bèère fún.

فِي أَقْرَبَ مِنْ رَجْعِ النَّفَسِ.


English

In less time than it takes to draw a breath.

Ní àkókò tí kò tó fífọn èémí jáde.

183

وَجَدْتُ الْجَوَّ قَدْ خَلَا.


English

I found the place had become empty.

Mo rí i pé àyè náà ti ṣófo.

وَالشَّيْخَ وَالشَّيْخَةَ قَدْ أَجْفَلَا.


English

And the old man and old woman had fled.

Àti pé arúgbó ọkùnrin àti arúgbó obìnrin náà ti sálọ.

فَاسْتَشَطْتُ مِنْ مَكْرِهِ غَضَبًا.


English

So I was enraged by his deceit.

Nítorí náà inú bí mi sí ẹ̀tàn rẹ̀.

وَأَوْغَلْتُ فِي إِثْرِهِ طَلَبًا.


English

And I went deep in pursuit of him.

Mo sì wọ inú ìlépa rẹ̀ jìnlẹ̀.

187

فَكَانَ كَمَنْ قُمِسَ فِي الْمَاءِ.


English

But he was like one who had been submerged in water.

Yoruba

Ṣùgbọ́n ó dàbí ẹni tí a ti rì sínú omi.

188

أَوْ عُرِجَ بِهِ إِلَى عَنَانِ السَّمَاءِ.


English

Or had been lifted to the clouds of the sky.

Yoruba

Tàbí ẹni tí a mú gókè sí àwọn àwọ̀ sánmà.
