Al-Harith bin Hammam narrated, saying:
Harisu ọmọ Hammam sọ̀rọ̀, ó wí pé:
A gathering joined me and my companions,
Àpéjọ kan kó èmi àti àwọn ẹlẹgbẹ́ mi jọ,
Where no caller was disappointed,
Níbi tí olupepe kan ko ti ni pofo,
Nor did a flint fail to spark,
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni òkúta iná kò kùnà láti tan iná,
Nor did the fire of stubbornness flare up.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni iná ìgbéraga kò tànná.
While we were exchanging verses of poetry,
Nígbà tí a ń pàrokò ẹsẹ ewì,
And sharing rare chains of narration,
Tí a sì ń pín àwọn ọ̀nà ìtàn tó ṣe iyebíye,
When a person in tattered clothes stood before us.
Nígbà náà ni ẹnìkan tó wọ aṣọ àkisa dúró níwájú wa.
With a limp in his walk.
Pẹ̀lú ìtẹ̀sẹ̀ nínú ìrìn rẹ̀.
He said: O best of the treasured ones,
Ó sọ pé: Ẹ̀yin tó dára jù nínú àwọn olówó,
