Al-Harith ibn Hammam narrated: I rose from the City of Peace for the pilgrimage of Islam.
Hárìsù ọmọ Hammam sọ pé: Mo dide lati Ilu Alafia fun irin ajo Islam.
When I completed the rites with God's help, and permitted myself perfume and intimacy.
Nígbà tí mo parí àwọn ìṣẹ pẹ̀lú ìrànlọ́wọ́ Ọlọ́run, ti mo si gbá ìdánilójú láti lo turari àti ìbálòpọ
It coincided with the season of Khayf, in the heat of summer.
Ó bá àkókò Keifu, ní ìgbà ooru tó gbóná jù.
So I prepared out of necessity with what protects from the midday heat.
Nítorí náà, mo pèsè fún ọranyan pẹ̀lú ohun tí ó dáàbò bo láti ooru ọ̀sán.
While I was under a tent with pleasant companions, and the gravel heated up.
Nígbà tí mo wà lábẹ́ àgọ́ pẹ̀lú àwọn ẹlẹgbẹ́ aláyọ̀, àwọn òkúta ilẹ̀ náà tí gbóná.
The midday has blinded the chameleon's eye.
Ìmólẹ̀ ọ̀sán ti diju ọga.
Then an old man approached us, followed by a young man.
Lójijì ní, àgbàlagbà kan ja lù wá, tí ọ̀dọ́ kan si tẹ̀lé e.
The old man greeted us with the greetings of a cultured person and conversed like a familiar, not a stranger.
Àgbàlagbà náà kí wa pẹ̀lú kiki ẹni tó ní ẹkọ, ó sì bá wa sọ̀rọ̀ bí ẹni tó mọ̀ wa, kì í ṣe àjèjì.
We were impressed by what he shared from his sack, and amazed by his openness before he even spoke.
O dùn mọ wá pẹ̀lú ohun tí ó pín fún wá láti àpò rẹ̀, O sì yà wá lẹ́nu pẹ̀lú ìfaradà rẹ̀ ṣáájú kí ó tó sọ̀rọ̀.
We asked him: Who are you? How did you enter without permission?
Àwa béèrè lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀: Tálọ́ jẹ́ ẹ? Báwo ni o ṣe wọlé láìsí ìyọ̀nda?
