الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَكِّيَّةُ

If all is impossible, then dates and a drink.

Tí gbogbo èyí bá ṣòro, nígbà náà dabínu àti nkan mímú,

So bring whatever is available, even a piece of dried meat.

Nítorí náà, mú ohun tí ó wà, kódà apá kan ẹran gbígbẹ.

And prepare it, for my soul desires what is prepared.

Ẹ lọ pèsè rẹ, nítorí ọkàn mi fẹ́ ohun tí wọ́n ń pèsè.

And provisions are necessary for my long journey.

Àti pé àwọn ohun èlò jẹ́ dandan fún ìrìnàjò gígùn mí.

And you are the best group to be called upon in times of hardship.

Àti pé ẹ̀yin ni ẹgbẹ́ tó dára jù láti pè nígbà ìṣòro.

Your hands every day have new acts of generosity.

Ọ̀wọ́ yín ní gbogbo ọjọ́ ní àwọn ìṣe ìfẹ́ràn tuntun.

And your gifts connect all beneficial ties.

Àti ẹ̀bùn yín ń so gbogbo àwọn ìbáṣepọ̀ tó wúlò pọ̀.

And my desire in what you provide is modest.

Àti ìfẹ́ mi nínú ohun tí ẹ fún ni jẹ́ kékeré.

And with me is reward, and outcome of relieving my distress is praiseworthy.

èrè ń bẹ lára mí, àti pé ìpárí dáadáa fun wíwà irọrun fún ìdààmú mi jẹ́ ohun ìyìn.

And I have thoughts that expose every poem.

Àti pé mo ní àwọn èrò tí ó fi gbogbo ẹsẹ̀ ewì hàn.
