الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَكِّيَّةُ

And benefited us as we have benefited you.

Àti pé, ó ti fún wa ní àǹfààní bí a ti fún ọ ní àǹfààní.

Where is the small house?

Níbo ni ilé kékeré náà wà?

For we are bewildered about you.

Nítorí a ti dàmú nípa rẹ.

He sighed the sigh of one who remembers his homeland.

Ó mí kan lẹ bí ẹni tí ó rántí ilé rẹ̀.

And he recited while his sobs choked his tongue:

Ó sì kọrin nígbà tí ìgbé rẹ̀ ń dá ahọ́n rẹ̀ dúró:

Saruj is my home, but how am I going to reach there?!

Sarújì ní ilé mi wà, ṣùgbọ́n báwo ni mo ṣe lè dé ibẹ̀?

For the enemies have settled there and overwhelmed it.

Nítorí àwọn ọ̀tá ti gbé ibẹ̀ àti wọn sì tí sọkalẹ síbẹ̀

By the sacred House that I sought to lay down my sins there.

Ní Orúkọ Ilé tí mo wá láti fi ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ mi sílẹ̀ níbẹ̀.

Nothing has pleased my eyes since I left its sides.

Kò sí ohun tó ti dùn mọ́ ojú mi láti ìgbà tí mo ti kúrò ní ẹgbẹ́ rẹ̀.

Then his eyes filled with tears.

Lẹ́yìn náà, ojú rẹ̀ kún fún omijé.
