And roll up your sleeves, O you who fall short
Ẹ sì múra sí iṣẹ́, ẹ̀yin tí ẹ kùnà
And look well, O you who observe!
Ẹ sì wojú dáadáa, ẹ̀yin tí ẹ ń wòye!
What ails you that the burial of peers does not grieve you, nor does the pouring of dust terrify you?
Kí ló ṣe yín tí sísìnkú ẹgbẹ́ yín kò bà yín nínú jẹ́, tí dídà erùpẹ̀ kò sì bà yín lẹ́rù?
And why do you not heed the descent of calamities, nor prepare for the descent into graves?
Èéṣe tí ẹ kò ka ìṣẹlẹ ayé sí, tí ẹ kò sì múra sílẹ̀ fún wíwọ̀ sí ibojì?
And why do you not weep for the eye that sheds tears, nor take heed from the death announcement that is heard?
Èéṣe tí ẹ kò sunkún fún ojú tó ń sọ omijé, tí ẹ kò sì ka ìkéde ikú tí a gbọ́ sí?
And why are you not frightened by a companion who is lost, nor anguished by a mourning gathering that is held?
Èéṣe tí ẹ̀rù kò bà yín fún ọ̀rẹ́ tó sọnù, tí ẹ kò sì ní ìbànújẹ́ fún ìjókòó ọ̀fọ̀?
One of you follows the bier of the dead while his heart is turned toward home
Ẹnìkan nínú yín ń tẹ̀lé pósí òkú nígbà tí ọkàn rẹ̀ dojúkọ ilé
And witnesses the burial of his relative while his thoughts are on claiming his inheritance
Ó sì ń wo ìsìnkú ìbátan rẹ̀ nígbà tí èrò rẹ̀ wà lórí ogún tó máa jẹ
And he parts from his beloved one in their grave(worms), then retreats to his flute and lute
Ó fi ẹni tó fẹ́ràn sílẹ̀ nínú ibojì, lẹ́yìn náà ó lọ bá fèrè àti dùùrù rẹ̀
It's been long you grieved over the loss of a grain, while forgetting the loss of loved ones?
Tipẹ ni ẹ ṣe máa ń ṣọ̀fọ̀ sí sísọnù wúrà kan, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ gbàgbé pípàdánù àwọn ololùfẹ́?
