الْمَقَامَةُ السَّاوِيَّةُ

So hasten, oh heedless one.

Dìde sí ìṣẹ ìwọ òmùgọ

For what sweetens the bitter.

Fún ohun tí ń mú adùn bá ìkorò

For life is nearly spent.

Nítorí pé ìgbà èwe yí kò pẹ́.

And you have not ceased blaming.

Ìwọ kò ti í fi èébú sílẹ̀

Do not rely on time, even if it softens and pleases, you will find yourself deceived by a snake that spits venom.

Má ṣe gbé ará lè ìgbà, kódà bí ó bá rọrùn tó sì tún dùn, kò má bà ṣe àbámọ pé ó gbá ẹ̀tanjẹ pẹ̀lú ejò tín tú májèlé.

And lower your shoulders, for death will meet you, it is in your veins, and will not delay if it intends.

Rọ̀ra ṣíṣé, dájúdájú iku yóò wá bá ọ ní ọ̀nà, ikú yìí n rìn lára rẹ, kò sì ní pẹ làti kọlù ẹ tó bá fẹ́

Jìnà sí ìgbéraga, nígbàtí ìgbìyànjú bá kún ọ, wá kọ fún apọju ọ̀rọ̀, oríre ní fún èèyàn tó ní ìjánu

Relieve your brother of his grief, believe him when he speaks, and forsake bad deeds, for successful is he who forsakes.

Shun bad character, train your hands to give, do not listen to blame, and keep them pure from guilt.
