When you anger your Lord, you show no anxiety for that
Nígbà tí o bá mú Olúwa rẹ bínú, o kò dààmú nípa rẹ̀
But if your endeavors fail, you burn with anxiety
Ṣùgbọ́n tí ìgbìyànjú rẹ bá kùnà, inú rẹ á bàjẹ́ gidigidi
And if gold's engraving appears to you, you become excited
Tí o bá rí àmì wúrà, inú rẹ á dùn púpọ̀
But if a bier passes by you, you feign sadness without grief
Ṣùgbọ́n tí pósí òkú bá kọjá, o ṣe bí ẹni tó ní ìbànújẹ́ láìní ìbànújẹ́
You disobey the righteous advisor, become difficult and turn away
O ṣe àìgbọ́ràn sí olùbánidámọ̀ràn olódodo, o ṣòro, o sì yípadà
Yet follow who deceives, who lies, and who spreads tales
Ṣùgbọ́n o ń tẹ̀lé ẹni tó ń tànijẹ, tó ń purọ́, àti ẹni tó ń ṣè ofoofo
You pursue the soul's desires and scheme for the smallest coin
O ń lépa ìfẹ́ ọkàn rẹ, o sì ń ṣe èrò fún owó kékeré
And forget the darkness of the grave, not remembering what lies there
O gbàgbé òkùnkùn ibojì, o kò sì rántí ohun tó wà níbẹ̀
Had fortune truly favored you, your gaze would not have fallen so low
Bí orí rẹ bá dára nítòótọ́, ojú rẹ kò ní wó sílẹ̀ báyìí
Nor would you be distressed when preaching dispels sorrows
Bẹ́ẹ̀ni ìbànújẹ́ kò ní mú ọ nígbà tí ìwàásù bá ń lé ìbànújẹ́ lọ
