And you submit to temporary hardship, yet make light of the extinction of family
Ẹ tẹríba fún ìṣòro ìgbà díẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ ka píparẹ́ ẹbí sí nkan kékeré
And you laugh at the burial - may you not laugh in the hour of your own (dancing) death
Ẹ sì ń rẹ́rìn-ín nígbà ìsìnkú - kí ẹ má rẹ́rìn-ín ní àkókò (ijo) ikú yín (
You strut behind funeral processions, not like your strut on the day of receiving your rewards
Ẹ ń rìn fàájì lẹ́yìn òkú, ṣùgbọ́n yàtọ̀ sí rìnrìn fàájì ní ọjọ́ gbigba àwọn ẹbun yín
You turn away from the lamentations of mourners to prepare feasts
Ẹ yí padà kúrò nídì ẹkún ìdárò lọ sí ìpèsè àsè
And from the burning grief of the bereaved to the refinement of delicacies
Láti inú ìbànújẹ́ àwọn tó pàdánù sí ìfẹ́ oúnjẹ dídùn
You care not for those who have perished, nor does the thought of death cross your mind
Ẹ kò náání àwọn tó ti kú, bẹ́ẹ̀ni ẹ kò rántí ikú rárá
As if you had secured a covenant against death, or obtained a guarantee of safety from time
Bí ẹni pé ẹ ti ní àdéhùn pẹ̀lú ikú, tàbí ẹ ti gba ìdánilójú ààbò lọ́wọ́ àkókò
Or trusted in the safety of your being, or verified peace with the destroyer of pleasures
Tàbí ẹ gbẹ́kẹ̀lé ìdáàbòbò ara yín, tàbí ẹ ní ìdánilójú àlàáfíà pẹ̀lú apanirun.
Nay! Evil is what you imagine! Then nay! Soon you shall know!
Rárá o! Búburú ni èrò yín! Lẹ́yìn náà, rárá! Láìpẹ́ ẹ ó mọ̀!
Then he recited
Lẹ́yìn náà ó kọrin
