الْمَقَامَةُ الْفَارِقِيَّةُ

He became like one inverted in his creation, and whoever lives will face the calamities of old age.

Ó dà bí ẹni tí a yí padà nínú ẹ̀dá rẹ̀, ẹni tí ó bá sì wà láàyè yóò rí ìṣòro ìgbà arúgbó.

And here he lies covered today, who wishes to shroud a stranger?

Òun re lónìí tí wọ́n bo mọlẹ, ta ló fẹ́ láti fi aṣọ bo òkú àjèjì kan?

Then he cried out in lamentation, weeping like a lover for his beloved.

Lẹ́yìn náà, ó kígbe nínú ìbànújẹ́, ó sì sunkún bí olólùfẹ́ fún olólùfẹ́ rẹ̀.

When his tears dried up and his anguish subsided.

Nigbati omije rẹ̀ gbẹ́, ìrora rẹ̀ sì dínkù.

He said: O refuge of the seekers and exemplar of the generous.

Ó wí pé: Ẹ̀yín Abo fún àwọn tí ń wá àti àpẹẹrẹ àwọn aláàánú.

By God, I have not spoken falsely, nor have I told you anything but the truth.

Lóòtọ́, mi ò sọ irọ́, mi ò sì sọ fún yín nǹkan kan bí kò ṣe òtítọ́.

If my staff had movement and my cloud had rain.

Tí òpá mi bá ní ìrìn, tí ìkùnlẹ̀ mi sì ní òjò.

I would have taken what I called you to, and I would not have stood as a guide to it.

Èmi yóò ti gba ohun tí mo pè yín sí, èmi kì yóò sì dúró gẹ́gẹ́ bí olùtọ́ka sí i.

But how can one fly without wings? And what about those who find no wings?

Ṣùgbọ́n báwo ni ẹnìkan ṣe lè fò láìsí ìyẹ̀? Kí ni pẹ̀lú àwọn tí kò rí ìyẹ̀?

The narrator said: The people began to confer, discussing what they were commanded and whispering about what they would do.

Olùgba ẹgbawa wí pé: Àwọn ènìyàn bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí í gbìmọ̀, ń jíròrò nípa ohun tí wọ́n pàṣẹ fún wọn àti ní ìsọrọ kẹlẹkẹlẹ nípa ohun tí wọ́n yóò ṣe.
