Chapter 6

الْمَقَامَةُ الْمَرَاغِيَّةُ

121

فَإِنْ كُنْتَ صَدَعْتَ عَنْ وَصْفِكَ بِالْيَقِينِ


English

If you have proclaimed your description with certainty

Tí o bá ti sọ àpèjúwe rẹ pẹ̀lú ìdánilójú

122

فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ


English

Then bring a sign if you are among the truthful

Nígbà náà mú àmì wá bí o bá jẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú àwọn olóòótọ́

123

فَقَالَ لَهُ: لَقَدِ اسْتَسْعَيْتَ يَعْبُوبًا


English

He said to him: You have sought to race a swift horse

Ó sọ fún un pé: O ti fẹ́ dìje pẹ̀lú ẹṣin tó yára

124

وَاسْتَسْقَيْتَ أُسْكُوبًا


English

And sought to drink from a gushing spring

Yoruba

O sì fẹ́ mu omi láti orísun tó ń tú jáde

125

وَأَعْطَيْتَ الْقَوْسَ بَارِيهَا


English

You have given the bow to its maker

O ti fún olùṣe-ọrun ní ọrun

126

أَسْكَنْتَ الدَّارَ بَانِيهَا


English

You have settled the house with its builder

Yoruba

O ti jẹ́ kí olùkọ́ ilé gbé inú ilé tó kọ́

127

ثُمَّ فَكَّرَ رَيْثَمَا اسْتَجَمَّ قَرِيحَتَهُ


English

Then he thought until he refreshed his talent

Lẹ́yìn náà ó rò títí tí ó fi tún ọgbọ́n rẹ̀ ṣe

128

وَاسْتَدَرَّ لَقْحَتَهُ


English

And milked his ideas

Yoruba

Ó sì fún èrò rẹ̀

129

وَقَالَ: أَلْقِ دَوَاتَكَ وَاقْربْ


English

And said: Throw your inkwell and come closer

Yoruba

Ó sì sọ pé: Jù àpò-ìkọ̀wé rẹ sílẹ̀, kí o sì súnmọ́

130

وَخُذْ أَدَاتَكَ وَاكْتُبْ


English

Take your tool and write

Yoruba

Mú ohun èlò rẹ, kí o sì kọ̀wé
